"Former Texas inmates file suit against jail for death of prisoners" Abilene Reporter

TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas - A class-action lawsuit targeting Taylor County Sheriff Les Bruce and other jail employees has been filed in federal court by several former inmates and the families of two inmates who died at the county jail. The suit alleges that inmates were routinely denied medical treatment and were punished for showing ongoing medical problems.

Monday, April 11 Update:
KTAB News confirmed today that a lawsuit was filed against the Taylor County Sheriff and against named guards and the nurse on duty at the Taylor County Detention Center.

According to the suit, a former inmate who now lives out of state says he had a broken back while in the jail and was refused medical treatment. Phillip Devon Dean said he was also slammed into a wheelchair by guards.

This afternoon the sheriff's department said it had not been informed of the filing and therefore could not comment on the suit just yet.

Friday, April 8:
A Dallas law firm says it will file a federal law suit against the Taylor County Sheriff on behalf of former Taylor County Jail inmate, Phillip Devon Dean.

Dean claiming personal injury caused by negligence. English and Associates law firm says Dean had a spinal injury that went untreated.

The firm said it planned to file the suit today, but because of the time of day, confirmation on that was not available as of this writing.

Fight with authorities sends Breckenridge man to hospital

BRECKENRIDGE — A Breckenridge man remains in critical condition following an altercation early Sunday morning at the local Allsup's convenience store.

Jose Reyes remains in the Intensive Care Unit of Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene following an incident involving Stephens County Sheriff's deputies and the Breckenridge Police Department.
